WordPress Migration FAQ

Already have a WordPress site you wish to move to Managed WordPress Hosting? If you are planning to migrate an existing site take a look at this FAQ beforehand.
Anything I need to do before migration begins?
  • The size and complexity of a site will determine how long the migration takes to complete. Larger sites with many images, files or a large database will take longer than usual.
  • Be sure your site isn’t in maintenance mode.
  • Be sure your site doesn’t have any kind of security protection.
  • Sites hosted by WordPress.com cannot be migrated due to limitations in their hosting, you’ll need to contact their support for help.
Will my site go down during the process?

No, only the content of the site is being moved. You will have a temporary domain where you can review your site. Once you’re certain the site should go live, you just need to update your domain’s DNS and allow time for propagation.

Can I close this page when my site transfer starts?

Yes, you can leave the page, but, please, copy and save the full URL of the migration page somewhere so you can easily come back and check on the progress.

What if my migration fails?

If the migration fails you can try again

Are there any steps after successful migration?
  • Review your site at the temporary domain, once you’re certain the site should go live, you just need to update your domain’s DNS and allow time for propagation.
  • If your plan includes Free SSL Certificate, it will be installed after migration is completed. Otherwise, you can add SSL Certificate from the site overview once the migration completes. This may add some additional propagation time.
  • You can add Website Security to protect against the worst threats easily from your hosting dashboard.
What can I do if I forgot my WordPress password?

You can always reset your WordPress password. If you need help with that please visit our help page.

When should you choose a plan other than Managed WordPress?

If you need the Linux cron function to schedule events. If you need to change the file attributes of a system file because you need to add a half dozen lines of code. If you need to delete the rows from a table leaving the table intact using PHPMyAdmin. The frustrating thing about managed hosting is that while it is setup to run WordPress fast and furious the crash comes when you install a plugin that requires even the slightest tweak.
